Ten years ago I spent my summertime taking my kids to VBS, picking berries, and soaking up the sunshine. Life has changed in a big way. Gone are the carefree days of summer. On Monday, Ben starts a paid internship at Autodesk as a programmer, Emily leaves for summer camp, and I’ll be home working.
In spite of all these changes, I can’t help noticing that there’s something magical about the long sunny summer days and I don’t want to miss the opportunity to savor this time. But honestly it’s easy to do if we aren’t intentional. I guess it always comes down to how we choose to spend our time. Will you join me this summer in living life on purpose?
5 Ways to Make Your Summertime Magical
Escape Your Routine: If you normally work indoors find a way to work outside. I love to pick up my laptop and sit in the shade with an ice tea. If your schedule is flexible, try starting earlier so you can enjoy some afternoon sunshine.
Notice the Little Things: Take time to notice the birds singing, the cool breezes blowing, the sweet scent of flowers, and the warmth of the sunshine.
Try Something New: One summer my aunt Becky and I took our girls to the beach for surfing lessons. It was so much fun! This summer I’d like to try zip lining through the forest. Check back with me in September.
Say Yes: When you have the opportunity to do something fun with friends and family, say Yes. Set aside your work and make some memories.
Say No: Last summer I cleared my schedule to maximize my time with the kids. Best decision ever. This summer I’ll be taking a break from the blog to make the most of any extra time with family. I’ll see you in the fall!
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV)
How will you make summertime magical for your family?

Great ideas. I am doing some very similar things. I love the working outside one. I also make a lot more visits to the lake and park just to sit and read. :) Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Rachel. Isn’t reading and being by the water just perfect?!

Love sitting on my patio early in the morning having devotions with a cup of coffee, looking at my garden!
What will really make it magical, will be spending some time with you and your family!! Love you?

I agree 100% Lori! Is this possible? Can we visit this summer? Here or there? I would love that! Love you too.

Love your ideas. I try to be a bit more “lazy” in the summer since I spend my year homeschooling my kids. My oldest will be going off to college in the fall, so I’ll only have 2 left at home.
